It's time to shake up this newsletter

show > tell

I just got back from ~2 weeks in Belize 🌴

It was our baby moon; the last trip we’ll take before our first kid arrives.

We spent half the time on the beach, and the other half in the rainforest.

10/10. Would recommend. Big fan of Belize.

While we were there, I had a lot of time to reflect - some of which I spent thinking about Modern Life Skills.

I’m still committed to the original mission, but want to take this newsletter in a different direction.

I wanted to start this newsletter to help people develop new skills.

Sharing examples of different mindsets and life skills has value in that pursuit, but not enough to be worth the time I’m putting into it.

Exposure is still an important part of the equation, but without application, it’s really just entertainment.

The way to develop any type of skill is through action.

Reps. Reflection. Repeat.

If my goal is for you to develop new skills, I should be doing more showing, less telling.

Instead of using this simply as a vehicle to tell you about modern life skills, the main intention of this newsletter moving forward will be to document how I’m applying them.

With the assumption that it might inspire you to do the same. More so than just screenshots of LinkedIn posts at least.

It won’t all be about me and what I’m building. There is still value in sharing other interesting perspectives I come across.

I’ll still mix in some interesting links, like this memo from Shopify’s founder Tobi that suggests “using AI effectively is now a fundamental expectation of everyone at Shopify.” It’s very trendy on LinkedIn this week.

But largely, this newsletter will turn into a twice-monthly living portfolio (or processfolio) of the projects that I’m building personally and professionally - and how I’m using them - to help myself and others develop what I like to refer to as Modern Life Skills.

If that’s still interesting, stick around. Otherwise, smash that unsubscribe button and we can part ways as friends 🤝

As a substitute for your regularly scheduled programming, I offer you some pics of warmer weather from Belize.

These are from last week. It’s snowing in Ottawa as a type this 🥲

Belikin = the beer of Belize 🍻

Is a hammock a chair? Is a hot dog a sandwich?

See you guys in two weeks.
